Gamma AAC Communicator user guide

The essential steps from a first profile to everyday communication. This guide covers the current Android test version.

01

Get started

Open the app and tap the profile name at the top. Select an existing profile or add a new one.

In Settings, choose a child, teen or adult appearance; 2, 4 or 6 cards; and one-tap or phrase-building mode.

02

Communicate

In one-tap mode, tapping a card speaks its message. “Repeat” plays the last message again.

In phrase-building mode, cards collect in the phrase area above. Tap “Speak” to play the whole phrase; remove the last card or clear the area.

Yes, No and Help are quick replies; they do not clear your phrase.

03

Add a card

Open the Card library. Search cards or filter by topic. Choose “Add” on a card, then select its page and position.

Selecting an occupied position replaces the card there; the previous card stays in the library. One card can appear once per page and on other pages too.

04

Create your own card

Tap “New card” in the library. Add a photo and fill in the label, one-tap message and phrase fragment.

You can record separate audio for the message and fragment. Listen, tap “Use”, save the card and place it on a page.

05

Language and voice

The language selector above changes communication language. “Menu language” in Settings changes interface text. They are separate in this version.

If the device lacks a voice for the selected language, install it in the device's text-to-speech settings or record your own voice for the card. Available voices on Samsung devices depend on the Samsung text-to-speech engine.

06

Data and backup

In the Android test version, profiles, cards, photos and recordings are stored on the device. Cloud sync is not active yet.

The JSON export in Settings contains profile and card definitions. It is not a standalone portable archive of photos and audio. Check your data before removing the app.

07

Common issues

If a card is silent, check device volume and the installed voice for the communication language. You can listen to recorded audio in the card editor.

If a card is missing, find it in the library and add it to the right page. Data does not automatically sync to another device in this test version.

Adapt use to the individual's communication goals. The app does not replace professional assessment, diagnosis or treatment.
